Green Bay City Guide

2009 Best Tournaments

9. 3M Championship. How sensational was Bernhard Langer’s chip-in for eagle on the final hole of this Champions tour event in Minneapolis? After his hard-rolling ball hit the back of the cup, popped several inches into the air and dropped in, the normally stoic German unleashed an uncharacteristic barrage of emotional fist pumps and finger points. Langer shot 65 and won by a shot over Andy Bean.

8. HSBC Champions. Phil Mickelson outplayed a star-studded leaderboard in the World Golf Championship event in Shanghai. Mickelson started the final round with a two-shot edge over Tiger Woods, who faded, and made an adventurous par on the finishing hole to edge Ernie Els by one stroke.

7. Frys.com Open. Troy Matteson shot back-to-back 61s at Grayhawk but still needed a playoff to outlast a pair of young guns, ex-college stars Jamie Lovemark and Rickie Fowler, who both played on sponsor’s exemptions. On the first extra hole, Lovemark magically bounced an errant approach shot out of the lake by the 18th green to save par, but it wasn’t enough. Matteson stiffed a long approach shot for the victory on the second playoff hole.

6. Barclays. Heath Slocum took on the popular role of Cinderella in the FedEx Cup playoffs when he drained a clutch 20-footer for birdie on the final hole in this event’s first playing at scenic but mostly unloved Liberty National.

5. NCAA Championship. Texas A&M’s Bronson Burgoon put his 120-yard approach shot to within inches on the final hole at Inverness. His birdie won the Aggies a national championship.

4. Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Michelle Wie hit a long bunker shot to inches for the birdie that clinched her first win as a pro, not to mention her first win anywhere since she captured the 2003 Women’s Amateur Public Links championship at age 13. It’s a promise of better days ahead for the struggling LPGA.

3. Arnold Palmer Invitational. Was this a replay or something? Tiger drained another birdie putt on Bay Hill’s 18th green for the victory. This time, he came from five shots back and recovered from a 71st-hole bogey to victimize Sean O’Hair.

2. Memorial Tournament. Tiger removed any remaining doubt about whether he was back, closing with 65 on a tough Muirfield Village setup. He birdied three of the final four holes, including a 7-iron staked to one foot on the 72nd hole. He also hit every fairway in the final round — take that, critics.

1.Tour Championship. A brief dream-come-true moment for PGA Tour execs as Phil Mickelson, back in form with his putter, rolled to an exciting victory at East Lake, beating Tiger Woods by three shots. Phil was at the winner’s ceremony to accept the tournament trophy, and Tiger was there, too, to accept the FedEx Cup trophy and its $10 million prize. Tiger and Phil on the same stage? Sweet.

Discover The Best Argentinean Recipe for Grilling Salmon

If at one point you may have eaten ‘salmon’ that has been grilled in either a restaurant or from home, and may have commented “Now, this here is the ‘best’ grilled-salmon ever!” It may taste really great, but wait until you try this recipe and prove that wrong, because the grilled fish recipe below will truly leave you with wonderment and create explosions within your taste-buds.

While staying in ‘Buenos Aires, Argentina’ for a couple of years, one friend taught me to prepare the ultimately delicious and most tasty grilled fish that I’ve ever tasted. It was cooked using a carbon-grill.

The big salmon I caught was about 22 lbs and was called “el dorado”. I just so happened to have luckily caught it so I then invited about 20 guests over for a light lunch; we definitely enjoyed an afternoon feast. I was able to use the exact same grilled fish recipe and it generated a lot of compliments from the samplers.

So here goes. I cook the salmon using my ‘George Foreman’ Grill, although any regular carbonated or gas-grill should work. The key here is determining if your fish is actually ready for serving. So here are bits of tips in determining if it’s ready. You may also opt to bake the salmon if there is no grill available.

Ingredients:

Suggested fish: Salmon (fresh)

Spices needed: salt, black pepper & “Old Bay” Garlic & Herb

Citrus Juices: I prefer limes (key limes) they’re that small & juicy lines usually green in color or perhaps regular yellow limes would be fine

Some vegetables: white-onions, red & yellow, green, peppers, zucchini

Butter: use this brand (I-Can’t-Believe-It’s-Not-Butter!)

Salad: lettuce (Romaine); avocadoes that are ripe and tomatoes

Some ideas for desserts: ‘French chocolate chiffon-pie’, key-lime pie, mouth watering Haagen Dazs ‘Mango Ice-Cream’

Buy those fresh salmon slabs (approximately 2 or 3 pieces it would depend on how many guests would arrive.). About a seven inch slab is good enough for about two people, but if you’re having over more guests ask your friendly fish grocer for suggestions.

Preparation:

Get salmon out from your fridge, then arrange it in one large-plate. Squeeze your citrus ingredients directly to the fish fillets (about 3 pieces of limes should do). Then generously spread butter on your fish but be careful not to overdo it.

Then, sprinkle some salt, some ‘Old Bay’ and other seasonings you like and freshly ground up peppercorns making sure that all of the fish is seasoned well.

Preheat grill and place a sheet of aluminum-foil over your griller then place fish onto the foil. During cooking, what I usually do is simply put an extra piece of lime-juice or lemon then sprinkle some spices onto your fish to create that added zing.

Grilling fish tends to get a little tricky. Your cook time would be 15-35 mins. Cooking time would depend on what kind of fish you’re grilling & the type of grill as well. But in order to determine if it’s been cooked perfectly, just tap fish meat and try to ascertain if flesh is already firm. If it’s firm then your grilled fish is already done.

Another alternative in checking if it’s ready is simply cutting a little bit of the end your fish using a clean knife; the result should produce a flaky fish consistency. Then, taste your fish & if your fish has that flaky consistency all throughout then its already done. To further ensure doneness, cut your fish in half to check for doneness as well.

Finishing Touch Ups:

Cut your vegetables into strips then stir fry them in your pan using some olive oil and serve this together with your fish.

For your wine choice, feel free to decide which wine you’d prefer, but personally I prefer ‘Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay’ since it’s my all time favorite. Set the mood with some background soothing music also.

Enjoy the night away!

A Girl Likes Me But I Don’t Like Her The Same Way. What Is The Best Way To Tell Her I’m Not Interested?

I’m 20 years old and a college student at UW-Green Bay and a girl here likes me tremendously but I don’t care for her that way. She is fun to hang out with so I don’t want to stop hanging out with her but I feel that is the only way to get her to understand that I don’t like her. It started with one night when I had a little too much to drink and we ended up making out but nothing more. I have already told her I don’t want to be together and I want to tell her I don’t have any feelings for her in that way but I don’t know how to say it. Please give me some suggestions and any way I can tell her in which we can remain friends.

Know the Best Way to Cure Bad Breath Problem

Bad breath – medically known as halitosis – is an extremely embarrassing problem that is actually present in most people over the world today. A person suffering from bad breath can often become a subject of ridicule. Hence it is very important to get rid of this problem. There are several products in the market ranging from toothpastes to mouth fresheners, but they can only provide temporary relief to the problem. Ayurveda has the potential to solve the problem from its roots.

The mouth is the place of the kapha dosha. Hence an imbalance in the kapha dosha of the person manifests itself in the form of bad breath. In order to treat the problem of bad odor forever, a person will need to keep his/her kapha in the proper balance. In most instances, oral hygiene is spoken along with dental hygiene. Hence most treatments that are beneficial for the teeth are also beneficial for keeping mouth odors at bay.

In an indirect way, even the pitta dosha is responsible. When the agni (digestive fire) of the pitta dosha is vitiated, then the person would have an improper digestion. This would lead to bad breath emanating from the mouth.

When a person has bad breath, what is actually happening is that bacteria are living in the mouth, which are decomposing the residues of the food and releasing sulfur. The bad breath is a result of this liberation of sulfur. The regions in which the bacteria live could be in the interspaces between the teeth, in the cavities of the teeth or on the tongue. In extreme cases, there could be pus formation in the gums (scurvy like conditions due to deficiency of vitamin C). This could cause severe offensive odor and the person could well become a social outcast.

Let us check out the various methods available in Ayurveda to treat the problem of bad odor.

(1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Bad Breath

® Babul (Acacia arabica)

The babul is actually useful for the treatment of teeth cavities. Strong teeth means less cavities; and this will mean no bad breath. Simply chewing on the fresh bark of the babul tree will make the teeth stronger and arrest any bad breath that is emanating from them.

® Banyan (Ficus bengalensis)

If the aerial roots of the banyan are used to rub on the teeth (much as a toothbrush does), then the bacteria on the teeth would be killed. This would reduce the bad breath to a great extent.

® Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)

Again, clove is actually used for dental treatment. Clove is perhaps the most commonly used herb in dental treatments; it is one of the chief ingredients of many toothpastes. But due to its pungent taste, it can also cure the kapha vitiation which will eventually fight the bad breath.

® Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum)

Chewing a few leaves of the holy basil will treat all kinds of mouth infections. Thus bad breath will become a thing of the past.

® Pepper (Piper nigrum)

Pepper is considered to be a very excellent agent in treating foul breath. A poultice of pepper is made with rock salt and rubbed on the teeth. When this is done on a daily basis, almost all kinds of oral and dental problems will be brought under control.

® Sandalwood (Santalum album)

Sandalwood is a very effective herb in the vitiation of the pitta dosha that can bring about improvement of the gum health.

(2) Dietary Treatments for Bad Breath

® The first important thing with halitosis is to check is whether the digestion is going on properly or not. Reduce the consumption of all foods that are difficult to digest. Include more fruits and green leafy vegetables in the diet as they can aid digestion.

® Flavor your food with spices such as cardamom and clove. These will help to combat the bacteria developed in the oral cavity.

® Drink lots of water and citrus fruit juices during the day.

® Gargle your mouth after everything you eat. Vigorous gargling is required to remove the food particles accumulated in the interspaces of the teeth or their cavities. If gargling is not enough, brush and floss.

® Do not leave residues of chocolates and sugary foods in the mouth. Wash the mouth immediately after eating such things.

(3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Bad Breath

Tablets of Khadiradi, Eladi and Lavangadi can be chewed about three to four times a day. This refreshes the mouth repeatedly and also has an astringent effect on the bacteria in the mouth.

(4) Home Medications

® The teeth and gums must be massaged with a mixture of honey and fine charcoal powder once a day.

® Keep the peel of a single pomegranate in the shade and let it dry completely. Do not keep it in direct sunlight or it will dry out the vitamins. Grind the dried peel to a fine powder. Put three grams of the powder in a glass of water and boil it. Gargle with this water. Repeat this for about a month.

® Dried coriander when chewed reduces the foul odor from the mouth. This is a good method to reduce the bad breath due to garlic and onion.

Candida and Yeast Infections- the Best Diet Tips to Eliminate Candida and Yeast

Any diet designed to reduce or eliminate an overgrowth of yeast must restrict sugar. Sugar is what keeps this organism alive. When it doesn’t have access to sugar it basically starves and dies. Restricting these foods goes beyond avoiding foods that contain sugar. There are many foods, namely simple carbohydrates like pastries, which convert to sugar after they are consumed. As a note of caution, you should not follow an anti-yeast infection diet without first consulting with your doctor. Once you are cleared to continue the diet, you should follow the steps to slowly progress through the diet.

It is a good idea to start the diet very aggressive and slowly taper off. The aggressive step helps to detoxify your system quickly. This step should last for a couple of weeks. Your symptoms should start to subside and you should feel an improvement in your well-being. You should then start introducing some of the avoided foods back into your diet. Introduce foods slowly so that you can detect if certain foods are causing you a problem. Once you’ve successfully introduced these foods into your diet, you should then focus on stabilizing your diet. A recommended approach to keep yeast infections at bay is to follow a diet that includes mostly vegetables, modest amounts of protein, and very little carbohydrates.

The foods that you should avoid and enjoy in order to eliminate a yeast infection are listed for each of the following groups:

Sugar Avoid: All refined forms (i.e. honey, maple syrup, raw sugar) Enjoy: Stevia

Fruit Avoid: All dried fruits, melons, apples Enjoy: Berries, lemons, grapefruit, limes, green apples

Vegetables Avoid: Corn, carrots Enjoy: All fresh varieties, including raw garlic

Meats Avoid: Pork Enjoy: Seafood, fish, all lean meats

Dairy Avoid: Aged cheese, soy milk, cow’s milk Enjoy: Yogurt, cream cheese,

Yeast Avoid: Green olives, pastries, pickles, mayonnaise, bread, brewer’s yeast Enjoy: Apple cider vinegar

Nuts Avoid: Peanuts, pistachios Enjoy: Almonds, walnuts, cashews,

Starches Avoid: Potatoes, pasta Enjoy: None

Beverages Avoid: Black tea, fruit drinks, alcohol, all types of soda, coffee Enjoy: Bottled and distilled water, herbal tea, vegetable juice, grapefruit juice

Other Foods Avoid: Mushrooms, packaged foods, processed foods, chips, crackers, spices, foods containing gluten

The degree to which you should restrict foods depends on the depth of the condition. If your condition is mild, a short-term diet may be beneficial. However, a long-term exposure to yeast infections requires a longer treatment plan. In both cases, it is recommended that you establish a highly nutritious diet after the yeast has been contained. In many cases, the foods that people enjoy eating the most can provoke a yeast overgrowth.

In addition to the foods listed above, it is a good idea to take oral supplements. Probiotics and a multi-vitamin are recommended on a daily basis. The probiotics will help to rebuild the natural flora of your digestive tract. This is essential since a yeast infection indicates that there is an imbalance. The multi-vitamin will provide you the essential nutrients that you may not consume through the strict diet.

Although this is just a glimmer of a candida and yeast infection diet, this guide will get you started along the way. A full program and diet for eliminating yeast and candida is best.
