Green Bay City Guide

There is always something different on the Norther Cascades

I couldn’t believe it.  The big plan: stay in nice Bellingham, Washington motels, and alternate that with camping in the countryside slightly north of Bellingham.  We were off to the coast to visit our little girl going to college in Bellingham, Washington at Western Washington University.  We should have realized when we were getting camping reservations that this was not your standard Montana style camping – reservations?  Regardless, I still laugh at our expressions as we pulled up to the campground, smack dab in the middle of rolling green farm country – fields of corn, truck farms, dairy farms.

Needless to say, the campground was wonderful and provided for all our travel needs, in remarkable style.  Complete with a fishing pond, a small forested area for us to pitch tents, a grocery store, a laundromat and even a small cafe, we realized that for this adventure it would do just fine.  Then too, settled in the middle of this gentle farm country, we were minutes from Bellingham, access to the coast, and turning eastward we were just a short drive from Mount Baker and the mountainous wilds of the North Cascades.

I could not get past how remarkable that corner of the world was!  From our campground up in Lynden, we were literally able to see over into Canada.  Choosing to explore the coastal areas, we popped down to Bellingham and followed Chuckanut Drive down the shoreline to Larrabee State Park on the ocean side of Chuckanut Mountain.  A wondrous trail headed off through dense undergrowth leading us to Clayton Beach.  I hate to admit it, but when you’re from Montana, any area you go into that is awash with stands of the very ferns we strive to grow indoors, the term – amazing – arises time and again.  Then again, the beach is a bit of a phenomena when the majority of your life has been spent in the Rocky Mountains.  Wonderful blue waters of Samish Bay stretched out in the distance with an occasional ship passing by, stretches of sand beaches, and a remarkable sense of peace, settled in on that shoreline for an afternoon.

Being a born and raised mountain guy myself, an afternoon drive from our campsite in the farm-lands to explore the route to Mount Baker was in order.  I just needed to make some mental notes about what we were looking at.  Not nearly close enough to Mount Baker for my liking, the family team pointed out that we do mountains all the time back home, so enough already.  Obviously, I will have to plan my exploration of Mount Baker and the North Cascades National Park on my own on another journey to the coast   We did, however, find a delightful loop from Lynden to Deming, up to Kendall, and circling back through Sumas right up on the Canadian border, and finally back to Lynden.

I still marvel at the amazing full range of recreation opportunities in the area right around Bellingham.  There’s every reason to plan much more vacation time exploring that wonderful region of the country.  If you get the chance to check out that neighborhood, we encourage you to do your planning through our Washington site, complete with trail information, shore recreation, and of course, base-camp Washington motel accommodations wherever your travels happen to take you.

NFL Tickets- More Injuries in Week 14

The regular season may be drawing to a close in three short weeks, but that doesn’t mean that teams aren’t dealing with injuries. In fact, how a team deals with injuries at this point in the season is often the difference between a playoff berth and a longer offseason. Week 14 equaled more injuries for teams, some of which required placing players on injured reserve. The Washington Redskins’ left tackle Chris Samuels ended up on injured reserve after week 14 as did the Denver Broncos’ tailback Peyton Hillis and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive back Chad Nkang. Fans can still see the teams try to fight it out at the end of the seasons by reserving their team’s NFL tickets from http://www.stubhub.com/nfl-tickets.

Samuels tore his triceps during the fourth quarter of the Redskins game against the Baltimore Ravens where the Ravens won 24-10. He has been with the Redskins since they selected him in the first round of the 2000 draft as the third pick overall. He has earned five Pro Bowl invites in his career, the latest being last season. Samuels has stayed relatively healthy throughout his nine seasons, only missing four starts prior to this season. He has started in 136 games for the Redskins. The injury to Samuels is one of many for the Redskins, who have had to shuffle around players multiple times this season. Right tackle Jon Jansen may also be out because of a knee injury. Just in Geiseinger, the backup center, came in as the tackle but Samuels’ permanent replacement will be Stephon Heyer.

The injury to the Peyton Hillis is more tragic than most as it is just another blow to the Broncos’ backfield. The Broncos now have to play their seventh tailback of the season, Tatum Bell. Hillis’s injury was preceded by season ending injuries to tailbacks Andre Hall, Michael Pittman, Anthony Alridge and Ryan Torain. Selvin Young is also out indefinitely with a torn groin. Hillis tore his right hamstring against the Kansas City Chiefs. Hillis is in his rookie season this year with the Broncos. Before his injury, he started in six games and played in 12. He tallied 343 yards on 68 attempts as well as five rushing touchdowns. He also had 179 yards on 14 receptions as well as one passing touchdown. In the game against the Chiefs, Hillis had 58 yards and one touchdown on eight carries.

Chad Nkang is in his second year in the NFL and his second season with the Jaguars. Nkang also started his season with an injury, being placed on the physically unable to perform list. He made it back to the active roster and played in seven games this season with no starts. He tallied five tackles. Last season, Nkang saw playing time in all 16 games with no starts. He had 17 tackles that season. To replace him, the Jaguars signed Kennard Cox, a rookie from the Green Bay Packers; practice squad. The Jaguars face the Packers during week 15.

British Army Uniform

The British Army uniform developed along roughly the same lines as uniforms in other European armies. Its signature colour had become standardised as red for both infantry (foot) and cavalry (mounted) units by the end of the 17th century, except for the Royal Horse Guards and Royal Artillery who wore dark blue; then khaki (for everyday wear) and blue (for parade) in the 1930s. Netherwear and equipment followed European fashion. Exotic costume, such as that of hussars and zouaves, was either embraced late and toned down, or not embraced at all.

carry”>http://www.himfr.com/buy-carry_on_luggage_size/”>carry on luggage sizeThe history of the British Army uniform is notable for an early and even eager embrace of camouflage in the form of khaki during the late 19th century. This reflected the exigencies of colonial war and the freedom allowed, and taken, by many of the officers who fought it. But it may also have had an aesthetic impulse. Armies in Europe were settling on mostly dark blue tunics and black equipment as a halfway house between display and practicality. This was not possible for the British army, wedded as it was to red tunics which in turn required white equipment to look pleasing. To become less conspicuous, the British army had no choice but to abandon red altogether on active service.

British army uniforms currently exist in several grades, which are worn depending on the requirements of a unit or individual, ranging from ceremonial uniforms to combat dress. While there are officially fifteen different grades (or ‘Numbers’), many of these are rarely worn or phased out altogether. Note that uniform distinctions can vary greatly from one Regiment or Corps to another, and the following descriptions are a generalisation.

Full Dress is the most elaborate order worn by the British Army. It was withdrawn from general issue in 1914; the Household Division resumed wearing their scarlet full dress in 1920, but for the remainder of the Army, red coats were only authorised for wear by regimental bands and in mess dress or on certain limited social or ceremonial occasions. The reason for not generally reintroducing the distinctive full dress was primarily financial, as the scarlet cloth required expensive red cochineal dye.

Full dress is now rarely worn except by the Foot Guards and the Household Cavalry. It is issued at public expense to these units; other units may obtain and wear Full Dress (in their pre-1914 pattern if no modern order is prescribed) for use in historical displays, when acting as ushers or lining parties at weddings, and when acting as a sword guard to the Royal Horse Artillery.[2] However, these uniforms must be purchased and maintained from non-public funds.[3]

Each regiment or corps which commonly wears Full Dress prescribes its own unique style, approved by the Army Dress Committee.[5] They are generally a modified version of the pre-1914 uniforms. In the case of units created since the First World War, such as the Army Air Corps, the Full Dress order incorporates both traditional and modern elements.

Full Dress is worn whenever a parade is attended or ordained by the monarch or a member of the British Royal Family, including ceremonial parades, State funerals, and public duties around royal residences (such as the Changing of the Guard). It is worn by all members of the Household Division attending the Lord Mayor’s procession, and also when participating in guards of honour or recruiting drives.

No. 1 Dress, sometimes referred to as “blues”, are universal ceremonial uniform which is almost consistent throughout the British Army. No. 1 Dress is only worn on ceremonial occasions, and, in some regiments, by the Duty Officer. It is also regularly required to be worn by a short list of other units, senior staff officers (above the rank of Major-General), and officers appointed as aides to the Royal Family.[7] The order is not generally issued to all units, with the khaki No. 2 Dress functioning as the main parade uniform.

For most regiments and corps No. 1 dress consists of a dark blue tunic and trousers (or skirt) with a coloured peaked cap. Different units are distinguished by the colouring of the cap, piping on the tunic and of the welts or stripes on the trousers, as well as badges. There are some exceptions: the tunic and trousers of The Rifles and Royal Gurkha Rifles are Rifle green and those of the King’s Royal Hussars are crimson, and cavalry regiments wear shoulder chains in place of shoulder straps. Officers may wear a waist sash of Crimson, Silver and Crimson Silk, or a cross belt depending on the their Regimental Dress regulations and whether or not they are carrying a ceremonial sword. Other ranks wear a white buff belt with a Regimental pattern locket, with a buff bayonet frog if carrying arms.

The peaked cap is not worn by all regiments; berets are worn in lieu by the Royal Tank Regiment, Army Air Corps, Parachute Regiment, Special Air Service and Intelligence Corps.[8] Berets are also worn by other ranks of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and the Royal Welsh in which feather hackles are displayed, recalling the plumes formerly worn on the full dress Busby.[8] The Royal Regiment of Scotland wear a regimental Glengarry with cockfeathers taken from the former ceremonial uniform of the Royal Scots, the Royal Irish Regiment wear the Caubeen, while the Brigade of Gurkhas wear a round Kilmarnock cap.

Originally issued as a field uniform (see Service Dress (British Army)), this uniform is worn for most formal duties by all units. No.2 dress consists, for most corps and regiments, of a khaki jacket, shirt and tie with trousers or a skirt. Head dress is the same as that worn with No.1 dress, with the exception of the Brigade of Gurkhas, who wear the Slouch hat and The Queen’s Royal Hussars who wear their tent hat (the only head dress worn without a cap badge or other distinction). The Royal Regiment of Scotland wear a special pattern of jacket with a cut away front, worn with a regimental tartan kilt or trews. Coloured trousers are worn by some units: crimson by the King’s Royal Hussars and dark green by the Royal Irish Regiment and Royal Dragoon Guards.

Officers are required to purchase their service dress, being provided with a Uniform Allowance to offset this and other uniform purchases. The pattern and material differs between Regiments: for instance the service dress of the Foot Guards and Honourable Artillery Company is darker that the ‘standard’, while the service dress worn by officers of 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards is of “Bays” pattern cavalry twill.

Regimental distinctions worn on No.2 dress can include collar dogs (sometimes with coloured cloth backings), coloured lanyards worn on the shoulder, and arm badges. Regimental buttons are worn; for most units these are of gold or silver colour, with black buttons worn by The Rifles and Bronze by the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. Officers and Warrant Officers wear a leather Sam Browne belt (that of 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards is of pig skin which is not to be highly polished) or a cross belt. Infantry Warrant Officers and SNCOs wear a red sash over the right shoulder to the hip and Soldiers wear a white or black plastic waist belt with a plate buckle displaying the regimental badge.

Every regular army soldier is issued with one suit of No.2 dress. In general, issue of this order of dress to units of the Territorial Army is limited to officers, warrant officers and sergeants, with pools of khaki uniforms being held for use by junior ranks for special occasions.[10]

Super Size Football Action With New York Giants Tickets

There are two kinds of football tickets- the ordinary ones and the super size New York Giants tickets which are sought after by any football lover. The Giants have almost become synonymous with great football and have maintained that tradition over the years. They entered with a bang in 1925 and they are still a force to contend with today.

The New York Giants are part of the National Football League and are also affiliated with the NFC East and the National Football Conference. They have built a collection of great wins over the years, which include four NFL championship titles, two Super Bowl wins, fourteen Division titles and nine Conference championships.

Sneakers And An Unbelievable Beginning

The New York Giants were born in 1925, and is the only team admitted that year that still exists today. Right from the beginning, New York Giants tickets began to sell out because the Giants started out with a streak that was nothing short of phenomenal. They won their first game 26-0 and by their third season, they had a league best record of 11-1-1.

In 1934, the Giants made history of a different kind by taking part in what is now known as the Sneakers Game. In a match against the Green Bay Packers, the Giants played wearing sneakers since the field was icy. The change in footwear greatly improved their performance and they were able to win the game.

The Doldrums And Success Again

By 1964, the Giants had hit a rough patch. Despite good sales of New York Giants tickets, the team seemed to be caught in a rut and until 1978, they were only able to bring in two winning seasons. The team hit an all-time low in another piece of NFL folklore known as the Miracle at the Meadowlands. The Giants were about to win a game against the Eagles and only needed to kneel the ball. Instead, the Giants called a running play which resulted in a fumble and an unexpected win for the Eagles.

The Giants were only able to find their footing again in 1979 and the rejuvenation in play was reflected in rejuvenation in the sales of New York Giants tickets. Despite having a few strike-marred seasons, the Giants were able to improve their game tremendously. In 1988, scandal struck the team when one of their players, Lawrence Taylor was suspended for cocaine abuse. Despite this setback, the Giants were able to finish 10-6.

The new millennium has seen the Giants enter the playoffs a number of times though they haven’t been able to make a Super Bowl win since 1990. Still, they have managed to keep up their sales of New York Giants tickets, mainly due to their strong fan base. The Giants are well known for having what many see as a split fan base, as some of them believe that the Giants belong to the New York metropolitan area while the others believe the Giants belong to New Jersey. In either case, both sides know that Giants football means giant action. You can watch them live by buying your New York Giants tickets online through an authorized ticket vendor.

New York Jets Tickets

Based in the New York metropolitan area, The New York Jets are a professional American football team. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They play their home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey at Giants Stadium, named after another NFL team, the New York Giants. The Jets officially refer to the venue as “The Meadowlands,” a name used on all official NFL and team game notes regarding Jets’ home games.

The club’s headquarters are located at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York on Long Island. They are constructing a new training facility and corporate headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey.

The jets began in 1960 as a deed member of the American Football League under the name New York Titans. Renamed after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963, it later joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.

The Jets hold the characteristic of being the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they crushed the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

Franchise history
Originally known as the New York Titans, the team played home games at the Polo Grounds. After a 5 to 9 season in 1962, the team’s future was in doubt. A group headed by MCA head Sonny Werblin and Leon Hess, bought the team from Harry Wismer on March 13, 1964, saved it from ruin. Hess eventually bought out his partners, and kept sole ownership until his death. His estate then sold the team to Johnson & Johnson heir Robert Wood Johnson IV in 2000.

After they took over, the team was renamed the New York Jets to transfer from the Polo Grounds to the New York Mets’ Shea Stadium one year later. Shea Stadium lies so close to LaGuardia Airport that the sound of jets roaring overhead was a common sound heard during games played there. The team’s colors were also changed from blue and gold to kelly green and white, which also were the colors of Hess’ gasoline stations.

Exactly one month after the sale of the team, the Jets hired Weeb Ewbank as head coach. He had won back-to-back NFL championships in 1958 and 1959 with the Baltimore Colts, and was one of the most respected coaches in the game.

2005
The 2005 season started out with the Jets reacquiring WR Laveranues Coles from the Washington Redskins and getting CB Ty Law from the New England Patriots. They also acquired free agent quarterback Jay Fiedler of the Miami Dolphins as an expert backup for the starter, Chad Pennington. During the Draft, the Jets traded their first round selection for Raider’s Tight End Doug Jolley. The Jets used their first selection (2nd round, 15th pick) to select Ohio State Kicker Mike Nugent to replace the departed Doug Brien. The Jets allowed several key role players to leave through free agency or traded them for underachieving players. These players included LaMont Jordan, Kareem McKenzie, Sam Cowart, Jason Ferguson, and to a lesser extent Anthony Becht.

The Jets entered the season with high hopes of competing for the Super Bowl, but in week three against the Jaguars when Chad Pennington reinjured his shoulder. Their backup quarterback Jay Fiedler was injured six plays after Pennington. The injuries caused previous third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger to take the role as the team’s starter and Vinny Testaverde was brought back out of retirement as Bollinger’s backup. After a poor showing by the Jets’ offense in a loss, Testaverde would start the Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His steady hand led the offense, and Curtis Martin scored two touchdowns, giving the Jets just enough to earn a 14 to 12 victories over the earlier unbeatable Buccaneers.

2006
On January 17, the Jets-Patriots coaching pipeline reared itself yet again, as New England defensive coordinator Eric Mangini was hired by the Jets and became the youngest head coach in all 4 major American sports, turning 35 on January 19. Mangini’s first order of business was to reorganize the coaching staff. Offensive Coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and Defensive Coordinator Donnie Henderson were both released from the Jets staff. Special Teams Coordinator Mike Westhoff was retained. A full staff was announced on February 20. Linebackers coach Bob Sutton was named defensive coordinator and the team signed Jim Herrmann to replace Sutton as the linebackers coach. He was the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan for twenty years before arriving in New York. Eric Mangini then installed a 3-4 defense.

General Manager Terry Bradway announced that he was stepping down as Jets GM on February 7, 2006. Assistant GM Mike Tannenbaum was named the new GM on the same day. Bradway continue to be employed as an investigation consultant.

The Jets finished the regular season with a record of 10-6, having defeated the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, and the Oakland Raiders in their last three games. They earned the 5th AFC Wild Card spot in the playoffs.

Current staff
Owner – Robert Wood Johnson IV
General Manager – Mike Tannenbaum
Head Coach – Eric Mangini
Assistant Head Coach – TBD

Radio and television
As of 2006, the Jets’ flagship radio station was WEPN, ESPN Radio 1050, with Bob Wischussen as the play-by-play announcer. Any preseason games not nationally televised are shown on WCBS, channel 2, and rebroadcast on SportsNet New York. Ian Eagle calls the action on those telecasts.

Notable past play-by-play announcers for the Jets include the legendary Marty Glickman and Howard David, who has called the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals for Westwood One and ESPN Radio

Lions QB Stafford Held Out Of Practice Again @ NFL Betting Picks

In NFL Betting Picks Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was held out of practice for the third time in the last four days, leaving his availability for Sunday’s game at Green Bay an open question.

The No. 1 overall draft pick suffered a knee injury during the Lions’ Oct. 4 loss to the Chicago Bears and sat out last weekend’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Veteran backup Daunte Culpepper passed for 282 yards and one touchdown with one interception in the Lions’ 28-20 loss.

Stafford didn’t practice Monday and Tuesday, took part in individual drills Wednesday and sat out again Thursday.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Thursday that he would let the team’s injury report “handle where we are with the quarterback.”

Calvin Johnson, the Lions’ No. 1 receiver, hasn’t practiced the last two days because of a knee injury he sustained against the Steelers. Schwartz didn’t offer an update on Johnson’s status Thursday.

Matthew Stafford was held out of practice Wednesday by the Detroit Lions because of his injured right knee.

The Lions chose to not say anything more than that.

Detroit coach Jim Schwartz replied, ‘We’ll see on Sunday,’ when told the Pittsburgh Steelers said they expected to face Stafford.

Even if Stafford can’t practice again on Thursday, Schwartz said that won’t necessarily rule him out.

“I don’t want to set any hard-set rules,” he said.

Daunte Culpepper took snaps with the first-string offense while Stafford watched, wearing a red No. 9 jersey, a Tigers cap, black shorts and shoes.

“Daunte looked good – just like he did in the preseason,” safety Louis Delmas said.

Culpepper was competing to be Detroit’s starting quarterback until he needed eight stitches to close a cut on his foot after the team’s third exhibition game.

Stafford, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, had his right knee twisted on a sack in Sunday’s loss at Chicago. He wasn’t in the locker room Monday or Wednesday when it was open to the media, but told reporters after the Bears game that he hurt the same knee in high school.
