Matt Hasselbeck 1998 Draft Day Pick
Matt Hasselbeck was born on September 25, 1975 in Westwood, Massachusetts. At 6 foot 4 inches and weighing 220 pounds, Hasselbeck is the perfect size for a top notch NFL quarterback. To go along with his size, he also has one of the smartest minds when it comes to quarterbacks. When you combine these two things it is easy to see why Hasselbeck has become one of the top players in the league. But although he is achieving a high level of success right now, things were not always this easy for him.
After a successful career at Xaverian Brothers High School, Hasselbeck decided to take his game to Boston College. While at Boston College he had a good career, but nothing that blew NFL scouts away. But all along Hasselbeck was working harder than ever before to get ready for the next level.
In the 1998 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers drafted Hasselbeck in the sixth round. Even though 186 other players were chosen before him, Hasselbeck was simply happy to get a chance to compete in the NFL.
In 2001 Hasselbeck got his big break when the Packers traded him to the Seattle Seahawks. During his time with the Seahawks he has set many individual records, and has also led the team back to the top of the NFC. In 2003, Hasselbeck became the teams all time highest rated passer.
For his career Hasselbeck has completed 1,342 passes for nearly 16,000 yards. This is in addition to 96 touchdowns, and only 57 interceptions. He is currently in the top 10 for the best all time passer rating in the NFL.
Matt Hasselbeck has had a tough road to NFL stardom, and now that he is there he is showing everybody what they passed up along the way. It is safe to say that when Hasselbeck’s career is over that he will be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks of his time.
Top Ten Defenses in the NFL
Here is my description of the top ten defenses in the NFL. This season looks to be a roller coaster and a lot of teams will have trouble staying on top of this list. This was written after week three so things may change from now to later in the season.
10. Arizona Cardinals: They have some of the sickest safeties in the league. We’re talking Adrian Wilson and Antrel Rolle. The corners are not bad either. I mean they got Rodgers Cromartie as well as other consistent players. They would be higher on this list but their run defense is suspect. I haven’t heard of any of their linebackers or defensive lineman. And I’m sure you haven’t either. They are allowing 100 yards per game rushing which is not bad but they have played San Fran, Miami, and Washington. So not the toughest foes just yet.
9. Green Bay Packers: They would also be much higher if they hadn’t just lost Al Harris for a couple games. They have a great secondary and just couldn’t keep it together against a great Cowboys offense last weekend. They gave up 48 points against the Lions, come on it’s the Lions. They fired their coach this past week cause he’s so horrible. They may be a playoff team but that is partly because of their offense.
8. N.Y. Giants: Here is a team with tons of big name lineman and linebackers. Plus that is without Michael Strahan. Can I just say Daaang! They are holding teams to 84 yards per game rushing and 167 through the air. Not bad week in and week out. They blitz hard and they seem to get like 6 to 8 sacks a game. Their secondary keeps opponents in check and doesn’t get beat deep.
7. Philadelphia Eagles: Solid defense all around. Yes they gave up 40 plus against the Cowboys. But that is a stellar offense on that Dallas team. It was literally the two best teams going at it, but I digress. They have been holding their other opponents scoring to a minimum and will dominate throughout the year. Held Pittsburgh to six points and St. Louis to three! As Borat once said “Very Nice!”
6. Tennesee Titans: As hard as it to not talk about the offense, I will attempt it. Well, their defense is going to be on the field a lot longer which will lead to more teams scoring on them once they get tired. They are in the top ten because they have done all right so far. However maintaining this will take a miracle. Good luck Titans!
5. Dallas Cowboys: This team I would like to put higher but everyone above of them is just outrageous on defense. They have a stellar backfield now with Pac Man Jones and Terrence Newman. Linebackers like Zach Thomas and Demarcus Ware make up a vicious pass and run stopping team.
4. Buffalo Bills: With Donte Whitner at Strong Safety and other all around players on D these Bills keep shutting down opponents. They also have Marcus Shroud at Defensive Tackle, that guy can play! They could stay at the top of their division if they keep playing like this. Out with the old(New England) in with the new(Bills). Who knows we could get a repeat of the Cowboys Bills Super Bowls.
3. Minnesota Vikings: Holding teams to 70.3 rushing yards per game, that is second best in the league. On top of that their pass defense is ridiculously good. They have Darren Sharper at Safety and Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin for Corners. Their defensive line is the one Coaches drool over. If they can get their offense clicking that would benefit their defense so they have some time to sip some Gatorade and cool off.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers: I can’t remember a time in my lifetime where they weren’t amazing on defense. They might have trouble keeping it together though this season as Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel of the defensive line are out for the season.
1. Baltimore Ravens: Wow. Maybe I should stop right there. They are holding their opponents to 70 yards per game on the ground and 90 yards through the dark sky their foe must be seeing. Yes I know what your all thinking, why didn’t I get them on my fantasy team, well I’m in the same boat but lets move on. Now yes you could say they only played 2 opponents thus far. But still, the Browns and Bengals are struggling, but they still have threats on offense like Chad Johnson that were contained by the Ravens.

Get Rid of Acne – Advice on Different Methods
Acne can be very annoying and those that suffer from acne want to get rid of acne as fast as they can. Acne can make life very difficult and can damage an individual’s self esteem. Acne can be mild or very severe and those that suffer from acne want to minimize it as much as possible.
There are several different types of acne and each type will require different treatments. Papules are red bumps that don’t have a whitehead or blackhead. Pimples occur when your pore walls break and bacteria can get into the cell which causes red inflamed skin. Whiteheads occur when oil clogs your pores. Blackheads occur when oil clogs pores but the pores stay open and the oxygen causes the oil to turn black. There are also cysts and nodules.
Many individuals are turning to all natural or homemade acne remedies. Many of the compounds that are found in prescription acne medication are actually from many fruits and vegetables. To treat acne you need to do three different things. Eliminate excess oil, kill the bacteria that causes acne and unclog your pores.
A lot of fruit, specifically citrus fruits are anti-bacterial and will kill any bacteria where it is applied. You can rub some lemon or citrus fruit into your skin. Citrus fruits can reduce swelling and shrink your acne. Cucumber and tomatoes are also found to be very good for your skin and can be used to treat acne.
You can also apply products, such as green tea that are high in antioxidants, to your acne. Green tea has many benefits and antioxidants are very beneficial to the skin. There are also products such as oatmeal that can be used in a form of mask. This oatmeal mask will draw the excess oil out of your skin.
It is impossible to get rid of acne overnight but bay following good skin care regimens and using natural or over the counter medications you can slowly get control of your acne until it is manageable and you self esteem returns.
To get rid of blackheads you need to realize that excess washing will not do anything as blackheads are not caused by dirt. To treat blackheads you need to flow a good skin care regimen. This includes using a cleaner, astringent and then topical mediation. There are plenty of over the counter products that you can use to get rid of blackheads.
The skin cleanser will get rid of bacteria on your skin; the astringent will close your pores so that oil cannot get in and the topical treatment can stop inflammation and kill any bacteria that is currently causing the acne. It is best to look for anti-bacterial products.
For those with very severe acne you will need to see a dermatologist as treating severe acne with over the counter products or natural products is not effective. Many times you will need much stronger medication that is only available in prescription form. If you don’t want to use prescription medication than the dermatologist may be able to suggest some other effective treatments for acne.

Lucid Dreams
Finally we have arrived to dreams which are more on the lighter side – Lucid Dreams. What is a Lucid Dream? A Lucid Dream is having a dream where the dreamer is totally conscious of what is going on. Basically this means being awake while you are dreaming. In these types of dreams, anything is possible and unlike the previous types of dreams, lucid dreams do not fall in so much to tragic experiences because the dreamer can create their own dreams just from imagining their ideal scene.
Lucid dreams come in three forms:
Dream-initiated lucid dream Wake-initiated lucid dream Mnemonic-initiated lucid dream
A dream-initiated lucid dream happens during the state when the dreamer is having a dream and then realizes that they are dreaming. It is kind of like dreaming and then waking up but you’re still in a dream, not having “really” woken up yet.
A wake-initiated lucid dream is when one goes from being awake to falling asleep, but when they fall asleep, they are still awake, and the dream begins as they are awake. So it is basically a transition between being conscious while being awake and then being conscious while dreaming.
A mnemonic-initiated lucid dream is one is confident that they will have a lucid dream in the upcoming dream. This could mean that they fall asleep and know they somewhere in the dream, they will come back alive conscious again. It is not randomly processed, but is done through repetition, someone like when a hypnotist can tell the mind when something is going to happen.
Below are some dreams of people who describe their lucid dreams. These lucid dreams are from a book called Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D. & Howard Rheingold.
Case Examples of Lucid Dreams
1. I realized I was dreaming. I raised my arms and began to rise (actually I was being lifted). I rose through the black sky that blended into indigo, to deep purple, to lavender, to white, then to very bright light. All the time I was lifted there was the most beautiful music I have ever heard. It seemed like voices rather than instruments. There are no words to describe the joyI felt. I was very gently lowered back to earth. I had the feeling that I had come to a turning point in my life and I had chosen the right path. The dream, the joy I experienced, was kind of a reward, or so I felt. It was a long, slow slide back to wakefulness with music echoing in my ears. The euphoria lasted several days; the memory forever. (A.F., Bay City, Michigan).
2. I was standing in a field in an open area when my wife pointed in the direction of the sunset. I looked at it and thought, “How odd; I’ve never seen colors like that before.” Then it dawned on me: “I must be dreaming!” Never had I experienced such clarity and perception – the colors were so beautiful and the sense of freedom so exhilarating that I started racing through this beautiful golden wheat field waving my hands in the air and yelling at the top of my voice, “I’m dreaming! I’m dreaming!” Suddenly, I started to lose the dream; it must have been the excitement. I instantly woke up. As it dawned on me what had just happened, I woke up my wife and said, “I did it! I did it!” I was conscious within the dream state and I’ll never be the same. Funny, isn’t it? How a taste of it can affect one like that. It’s the freedom, I guess; we see that we are truly in control of our own universe. (D.W., Elk River, Minnesota).
3. One night I was dreaming of standing on a gentle hill, looking out over the tops of maples, alders, and other trees. The leaves of the maples were bright red and rustling in the wind. The grass at my feet was lush and vividly green. All the colors about me were more saturated than I have ever seen.
Perhaps the awareness that the colors were “brighter than they should be” shocked me into realizing that I was in a dream, and that what lay about me was not “real.” I remember saying to myself, “If this was a dream, “I should be able to fly in the air.” I tested my hunch and was enormously pleased that I could effortlessly, and fly anywhere I wanted. I skimmed over the tops of the trees and sailed many miles over new territory. I flew upward, far above the landscape, and hovered in the air currents like an eagle.
When I awoke I felt as if the experience of flying had energized me. I felt a sense of well-being that seemed directly related to the experience of being in a lucid dream, of taking control of the flying. (J.B., Everett, Washington).
As you can see from the above, Lucid dreams can offer the dreamer more fun than he or she usually has when entering a normal dream state. How many dreams have you had when you woke up and gone through the day totally unaware of what dreams you have had? To me, and to many others, it would be interesting to see what types of dreams we have in the moment of dreaming and remembering with vivid clarity, what we’ve dreamt the night before.
In the last past week, we have gone over many dreams in which were totally absurd to totally mind blowing. All this stuff is possible through lucid dreams, such as having telekinesis like moving objects with your mind or supernatural abilities such as flying at the speed of light across the earth. In the next post, I will explain how one can have a lucid dream and conclude this series with how we can enlarge consciousness through our dreams.

The Jimmie Johnson Era
As Jimmie Johnson closes in on his third consecutive Sprint Cup championship, it is time for all fans, and that includes haters of the 48, to concede that we are smack dab in the middle of the Jimmie Johnson era.
Some fans will argue that Johnson’s success is due to superlative equipment supplied by Hendrick Motorsports. However, he consistently outperforms all of his teammates, including the four-time champion and future Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon. Others will bemoan his achievements due to his personality, or lack thereof. To the majority of fans, especially traditional fans, he is considered vanilla, or bland.
However, you cannot argue with success. Johnson entered NASCAR’s highest level of competition in 2002 as Jeff Gordon’s protégé. Prior to his rookie campaign, he was an also-ran journeyman in the Nationwide (Busch) Series. Gordon, Rick Hendrick, and the powers that be at Lowe’s Improvement believed in the 26-year-old aspiring NASCAR star.
His rookie season was a pleasant surprise, as he won three races and finished fifth in the final championship standings. He failed to win the Rookie of the Year honors, as that accolade went to Johnson’s rookie counterpart, Ryan Newman. In 2003, Newman again outshined Johnson, as Newman won eight races compared to Johnson’s three. Newman won multiple Driver of the Year awards. Johnson finished second in the Sprint Cup standings to Matt Kenseth, however.
In 2004, Johnson won eight races, and finished eight points behind the eventual champion Kurt Busch. Johnson was emerging as one of NASCAR’s elite drivers. He failed to capture the championship again in 2005, as it was Tony Stewart’s year to shine. In 2006, Johnson and the 48 crew finally earned the opportunity to sit at the head table, as they were crowned champions. Johnson won five races and edged out Matt Kenseth by 56 points for the ultimate prize.
In 2007, Johnson won four of the final ten races, all consecutively, and handily beat Jeff Gordon for the championship by 77 points. He won ten races total, the first time anybody had reached double digits since Gordon in 1998. He was the unambiguous favorite to win the Sprint Cup title as the 2008 season commenced.
After the season began, Johnson seemed to struggle at times, especially the intermediate tracks such as Las Vegas and Atlanta. Meanwhile, young hotshots, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards dominated the first twenty-six races, as they combined for 14 wins. While Johnson was running well, he was an afterthought. That all changed once the Chase for the Championship began. Johnson pieced together a remarkable run of consistency, with his worst finish being 15th at Texas. He won races at Kansas, Martinsville, and Phoenix, and owns nearly an insurmountable lead of 141 points over Edwards heading into the season finale at Homestead. In fact, a 36th place finish would be the clincher.
For fans of Johnson, as well as fans who appreciate greatness, this is an exciting time in NASCAR. This is comparable to the New York Yankees in the 1950’s, Green Bay Packers in the 1960’s, or even the Chicago Bulls of the 1990’s. However, Johnson has far more detractors than supporters, so his run at history does not magnetize much fanfare.
Fans, we have read about the Lee Petty era. Some of us were fortunate enough to witness the Richard Petty dominance, and even the Cale Yarborough three-peat. We are all aware of the Darrell Waltrip and Junior Johnson dynasty in the early 1980’s, which was a precursor to the decade-long Dale Earnhardt ascendancy that included six of his seven championships.Along came Jeff Gordon, a young interloper from California who seized the torch from the great Earnhardt, and proceeded to score four championships in seven years. Tony Stewart enjoyed some bright spots, with titles in 2002 and 2005, but he is not the driver people will point to when they discuss the driver of the decade. That driver is Jimmie Johnson.
When the NASCAR preview publications are released in January of 2009, do not be surprised if Jimmie Johnson is projected to capture a fourth consecutive Sprint Cup championship.

Where To Buy Property In Spain?
I had been looking for a villa in Spain for some time now, being of retirement age I was ready to find a spot in the sun and spend the rest of my days sipping margarita by a pool.
Having worked hard for my whole life I felt I deserved a luxurious villa somewhere in Spain, I did not however want the usual villa in a complex surrounded by other Brits, which was my idea of hell, I wanted to be surrounded by local Spanish inhabitants and in a location that I could savour for the rest of my days.
The main question to ask however when buying a property in Spain is where? The country is such a diverse mixture of cultures that the choice is limitless. As long as you haven’t got your heart set on buying property within spitting distance of the beach you can find places with a true insight into the culture of Spain, and I must emphasise again, why would you move to Spain, just to live in a British cul de sac?
A region worthy of note is Catalonia; in the north east corner of Spain it is much cooler than the south with the major city being Barcelona. Sitting close by to France it is a heady mixture of the cultures whilst retaining its own distinguishing features.
The cuisine however is my favourite element, and eating out is one of the greatest delights of this region. The mixture of sweet and sour, and the inclusion of pork and fish combine wonderfully to make menus of pure delight.
Murcia offers the usual delights of Spain and again is a great choice if looking for property, its climate can be defined as semi arid, it experiences extremely mild winters and warm summers, perfect for retirement. Over 300 hundred days a year are sun drenched, this makes Murcia the perfect place to buy a villa if you plan to plant olives, grapes and citrus fruits.
The idea of having my own orchard with the ability to make my own wine and olive oil is extremely appealing to me, despite retiring and looking for an easy life, I still want to undertake a few day to day chores.
If you are looking for a villa somewhere with an easier, more moderate climate however I would recommend Galicia as the ideal destination. Often referred to as ‘green Spain’ its close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay means cooling seaborne winds bathe the peninsula with moisture and make it a much more bearable destination for property. The wide variety of golf courses in this region of Spain also makes this the perfect place for those who appreciate time on the fairways.
Out of all the regions of Spain however I like Andalusia, in the far south of the country it is by far the hottest and its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar make it sweltering in the summer. As someone who likes the sun I find this climate the most preferable.
I also enjoy the heavy Moorish influence in the region, architecturally the domes of Muslim Iberia are a sight to behold whereas the cuisine has eclectic feel to it as it combines Mediterranean and European cooking styles with those of Moroccan North Africa. This is another benefit of the region as Africa is a short ferry ride away, opening up the wonderful bazaars for your shopping needs.
The reason so many retire to Spain is most probably due to the country’s efforts to accommodate the retiring of Europe, however I feel it should be remembered that instead of taking the first option of property surrounded by your fellow countrymen, take the plunge into Spanish culture and find a region where you can soak up the way of life and truly integrate yourself with the locals.
